Watch Together — Privacy Policy

Overview

Watch Together is a browser extension that synchronizes video playback between users. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect (very little) and how we use it.

Data We Collect

We do not collect, store, or sell any personal data.

• Display name: The name you enter is stored locally on your device and shared only with other users in your room during an active session. It is never stored on our servers.
• Playback state: Play/pause/seek timestamps are transmitted in real-time between room members to enable synchronization. This data is never stored — it exists only during the active session.
• Chat messages: Messages are relayed between room members in real-time. They are never stored on our servers and are lost when the room closes.
• Room codes: Randomly generated codes are held in server memory only while the room is active. They are deleted when all members leave or after 12 hours of inactivity.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• Email addresses
• Browsing history
• Video content or URLs you watch
• IP addresses (not logged)
• Cookies or tracking data
• Analytics or telemetry

Third-Party Services

Watch Together connects to a WebSocket server to relay synchronization messages between users. No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services are used.

Data Storage

The extension stores your display name and server URL preference locally using the browser's storage API. This data never leaves your device except when shared with room members during an active session.

Children's Privacy

Watch Together does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The extension does not require an account or any personal information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
